Alone With God
I was visiting my daughter and her three children one summer. After a couple of weeks of never being alone except in the bathroom, I was praying for some alone time with God.
The next day, I offered to drive my daughter and grandchildren to a state park where they attended a gathering that I chose not to attend. They just wanted to make an appearance and then they would be right back, they assured me. So, I tried to read a book. I waited for a couple of hours. Then I grew anxious and frustrated because they were taking so long. I wanted to go home!
Then all of a sudden, I realized that God had answered my prayer. He had arranged for me to be alone with Him in a beautiful and peaceful setting. I was sitting by a lake surrounded by five mountain ranges. The temperature was a perfect 77 degrees. I was disappointed that I hadn’t realized it sooner. But, I quickly changed my attitude and spent the remainder of my time there in prayerful fellowship with my Father. I surrendered to His will and asked that I could be a good example to my grandchildren.
Upon their return, my grandson hugged me and said, “I’m sorry we took so long, Grandma. What have you been doing?”
God did it again. He answered my prayer. I was about to be a good example. And this time I realized it right away. “That’s all right, Tristan,” I answered. “I got to spend some time with God.” This sparked a conversation on prayer, which they all got to hear on the way home.
It makes me wonder how many times God has answered my prayers and I was too distracted to notice.

Jesus spent as much time in prayer as He could. After He began His public ministry, He was continually surrounded by crowds of people. Luke 5:16 tells us that “… He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”
In the Christian life, alone time with God is very important. Here are only a few of the benefits I’ve received from my time with God:
• When I combine prayer with reading the Bible, I get to know God better.
• I feel loved.
• He gives me a sense of belonging.
• I feel in tune with God.
• Time with Him gives me focus and clarity about my life.
• He gives me strength.
• He is my Source of power. If I am in His will, I can do anything!
• He gives me confidence.
• Being with God, makes me feel peaceful. I can relax and breathe.
• I receive assurance that God is on my side.
• Because I am getting to know Jesus more each day, I can become more like Him.
• I know the Original (Jesus) so well that it is easy for me to spot counterfeits.
Have you been alone with God lately? I mean quality time, focused on Him and your relationship with Him. He is Your heavenly Father and longs to be with you. He knows you and loves you and wants you to get to know Him.
I challenge you to set aside 10 minutes each day for the next 30 days to just be quiet before Him. Read your Bible as God leads you and pray. You might want to keep a journal of your experiences with Him. See how it will change your life!
